The Zcash Open Source Miner Challenge

Least Authority, as a supporter of the Zcash Company, operated this challenge.

The Zcash Company sponsored a prize fund of $30,000 for the winners of the challenge. The winning CPU entry received a $10,000 prize and the winning GPU entry received a $10,000 prize and the other $10,000 of prizes were distributed to the Runners Up.

Incentivizing the creation of open source miners enables a wider community to mine for Zcash coins and take ownership of the network as a public good. While we expect a full range in size of Zcash miners to exist, the more individuals who run a miner (whether GPU or CPU) the stronger the network.
